The Provider #2

Faz pouco mais de uma semana que tenho trabalhado na edição 2 de The Provider, uma hq escrita por Brett Rounsaville e ilustrada toda por mim. Eu tenho um carinho muito grande por essa série, não só pelo roteiro ser bastante original, mas por poder testar coisas novas, técnicas e estilo.

É também a única série em que eu pude fazer desenho, arte-final e cores sozinho.

Na primeira edição eu ainda sentia um pouco de medo, tentando fazer as cores como as HQs de super-heróis que sempre li. Uma coisa mais renderizada, cheia de efeitos e brilhos. O resultado foram páginas cheias de efeitos desnecessários (que não serviam à história, estilo Image anos 90- e até algumas mesmo hoje em dia).

Mas nessa edição 2 eu estou mais confortável pra testar algumas coisas que eu vinha tendo vontade mas não tinha espaço ou confiança. Por exemplo, menos cores por página e praticamente nenhuma renderização nelas, diferenciando os planos mais pelos valores do que pela cor e efeitos.

Eu gosto das hqs antigas, coloridas com aquelas cores chapadas em que todo volume era praticamente só no nanquim. É o que venho fazendo aqui.

It's been a little over a week since I started on issue 2 of The Provider, which is a series written by Brett Rounsaville and illustrated by me. I care very much for this particular series, not only for the very original script, but because this is the first series in which I get a chance to try new things, techniques and style.

It's also the only series that I get to do the entire art by myself, from pencils to colors.

When I did the first issue I was still a little afraid, still trying to color like the colors on most super-hero books (which are usually overly rendered). Something full of little shiny things, light effects, etc. The result was a book colored like the 90's Image Comics. Something that got in the way of the telling of the story.

But on this issue 2, I'm more comfrtable to try some new things I've been wanting to try, but didn't feel very confident to do it. For example, flat colors (and very few colors per page as well) , leaving the sense of depth to the values instead of over render everything.

I like the old comic books, colored with those flat gouache colors in which most of the rendring, came from the ink. It's what I've been trying to do here.

Nova HQ online - New Story online

Faz tempo que tenho tentado ter uma folga nos trabalhos pra desenhar minhas hqs pessoais. E Quinta-feira passada (11/07) finalmente deu certo e tive até domingo de madrugada pra trabalhar melhor uma ideia que eu tenho. I've been trying to get some time off my regular work to do some personal projects. Finally, last Thursday (07/11) I got the chance to work on a previous idea.
